Now a wholly owned subsidiary of Compass, Anywhere Advisors helped solidify the market dominance of its parent company before it was acquired by Compass in early 2026. 

Anywhere launched in 2006 as Realogy, born as a spin-off from the real estate, travel, and hospitality conglomerate Cendant. Realogy housed other big names in real estate from its inception, including Corcoran, Coldwell Banker, Century 21 and Sotheby’s International Realty. Its services included real estate brokerage, relocation, title, and insurance. Realogy went public in 2012, and its 21-year CEO, Richard A. Smith, passed leadership of the company over to former Capital One executive Ryan Schneider in late 2017. The organization rebranded to Anywhere Real Estate in 2022. 

Anywhere had been a major force in the real estate industry for years, holding between 5-7% of all US sales volume for nearly a decade. As of 2025, Anywhere counted nearly 50,000 agents on its roster.

Anywhere Real Estate completed its merger with Compass in January 2026, following an expedited DOJ approval process that has come under fire. Federal lawmakers have criticized the speedy closing, saying the $1.6 billion merger did not get a proper review from the DOJ – and raising the possibility that the deal may come under antitrust scrutiny in the future. 

As of now, however, Anywhere’s fortunes are tied up with the younger company. Compass is also a publicly traded brokerage that operates nationwide, and although it has not seen a profitable quarter, it reported nearly 24% revenue year-over-year increases in the fourth quarter 2025.

Upon completion of the acquisition in early 2026, Compass CEO Robert Reffkin indicated that Anywhere’s portfolio of well-known real estate brands would continue to exist. Compass’s tech platform would be available for all agents and brokers under the combined entity, and those units would be able to operate with “the same independence they’ve always had.”
