The overall 2020 Swanepoel Power 200 (SP200) ranks the most powerful leaders in the residential real estate brokerage industry as at December 31, 2019 with adjustments made for major announcements between aforesaid date and publication on January 14, 2020. The Top 20 Association/MLS Executives List is a subset of the main Power200 List, and acknowledges staff executives or elected officers of a Realtor association, council, board, et al. MLS organizations and other subsidiaries executives are also included here as the businesses are usually intertwined.

Robert “Bob” Goldberg

In 2019, Goldberg continued leading the U.S.’s largest trade association with a clear hand. He helped guide a quick action on NAR’s MLS Clear Cooperation Policy, which stipulates that MLS participants may market a property for sale for at most one day before listing it in the MLS. In addition, he continued instituting the goals he laid out when he assumed NAR’s top job in 2017 including embracing disruption, marked by the second technology conference, iOi Summit, in Seattle. C. Robert “Bob” Hale III

The long-time charismatic leader of one of the nation’s largest and most influential local Realtor associations, Hale leads over 35,700 members as head of the Houston Association of Realtors. With members across Texas, Hale runs his association and its popular MLS with a market-driven, member-centric focus that has made it a cutting-edge leader and model for others.

Arthur “Art” Carter

California Regional Multiple Listing Services (CRMLS)
Carter has led the nation’s largest MLS in CRMLS, which has over 100,000 members, since 2005 and is the country’s most powerful and influential MLS executive. He serves as chairman of the Real Estate Standards Organization, the industry nonprofit working to streamline MLS data access and management, is a member of the MLS Roundtable and serves as a strategic manager on the board of large Chicago MLS Midwest Real Estate Data.

Joel Singer

California Association of Realtors
As the long-time leader of the California Association of Realtors, the nation’s largest state Realtor association with over 190,000 members, Singer plays a leading role in organized real estate. Also, a real estate tech pioneer, he developed CAR’s for-profit subsidiary Real Estate Business Services, which developed popular forms software company zipLogix.

Vince Malta

The 2020 NAR president, Malta comes to the association leadership role as a 43-year industry vet and owner of San Francisco brokerage Malta & Co. A third-generation Realtor and a former president of the California Association of Realtors, he will help lead NAR in a charged year that will see the association tackle the marketing of coming soon and pocket listings and the class-action antitrust lawsuits that name NAR as a defendant.

Katherine “Katie” Johnson

SVP and General Counsel

National Association of Realtors
As NAR’s general counsel and chief member experience officer, Johnson ensures NAR’s programs, policies and activities comply with the law. She will have a momentous 2020 as she helps NAR respond to and deal with the class-action antitrust lawsuits that name NAR as a defendant. Johnson joined NAR in 2007 and became general counsel in 2014.

Bill Malkasian

Chief Advocacy Officer

National Association of Realtors
As head of NAR’s lobbying efforts, Malkasian plays a critical role at the nation’s largest trade association and one of its most powerful advocacy organizations, which spent over $30 million on lobbying efforts in 2019 alone. He also directs the Realtors Political Action Committee’s political operations and oversees regional political directors and public issue advocacy.

Brian Donnellan

Bright MLS
With his appointment in September 2019, Donnellan became CEO of the nation’s second largest MLS in Bright MLS, which serves over 88,000 members in the Mid-Atlantic region. Previously, he served as Bright’s chief operating officer and Bright’s predecessor MRIS. He is also a member of the MLS think tank MLS Roundtable.

John DiMichele

DiMichele has run the 50,000-member Toronto Real Estate Board, the world’s largest local Realtor board, since 2014. Before joining TREB as chief information officer in 2002, he worked as a manager for Canadian franchisor Royal LePage.

Lawrence Yun

SVP and Chief Economist

National Association of Realtors
Widely acknowledged as the U.S.’s foremost residential real estate industry economist, Dr. Yun heads NAR’s economic department as chief economist, creating economic forecasts and providing housing market analysis for the trade group. Dr. Yun also leads NAR’s research group as the senior vice president of research, heading its marketing research and predictive analytics teams.

Michael Bourque

As CEO of Canada’s largest real estate trade association in CREA, Bourque represents more than 125,000 real estate brokers and agents working for over 90 real estate boards and associations. With decades of experience in public policy, Bourque was previously CEO of the Railway Association of Canada.

Teresa King Kinney

Miami Association of Realtors
King Kinney heads up one of the nation’s largest Realtor associations in the 46,000-member Miami Association of Realtors. She advanced the association’s international efforts by signing a record 179 international partnerships. In 2019, the Miami Association of Realtors commercial division launched South Florida’s only commercial MLS and public portal.

Shannon McGahn

As senior vice president of Government Affairs for the U.S.’s largest trade association in NAR, McGahn helps give voice to more than 1.3 million members. Before joining NAR, McGahn served as counselor to the U.S. Treasury Secretary and staff director for House Financial Services Committee.

Rebecca Jensen

Midwest Real Estate Data (MRED)
Jensen leads one of the country’s largest MLSs in Chicagoland’s MRED, which has 45,000 members. She also plays a key role in the MLS Grid, the MLS data-sharing initiative currently serving 10 MLSs and serves on the boards of the Council of Multiple Listing Services, California Regional MLS, Broker Public Portal and The MLS Roundtable.

Merri Jo Cowen

Stellar MLS
With over 34 years in the industry, Cowen oversees the nation’s third largest MLS in Stellar MLS (formerly My Florida Regional MLS and rebranded in 2019), which serves 58,600 subscribers, 14 shareholder associations and three customer associations in Central and Southwest Florida. Cowen serves on The MLS Roundtable.

Kathy Condon

MLS Property Information Network (MLS PIN)
Condon runs one of the country’s largest MLSs in MLS PIN, which serves 41,537 members and over 3 million consumers in six New England states and New York. She has also served as president of the Council of Multiple Listing Services and as a member of the 2017 California Regional MLS board of directors and The MLS Roundtable.

Matthew Consalvo

Arizona Regional Multiple Listing Service (ARMLS)
Consalvo runs one of the nation’s largest MLSs in Arizona Regional MLS, which has 38,321 members. He is also a founding member of MLS Aligned, the first major noncontiguous MLS venture with Metro MLS in Wisconsin that will eventually serve over 45,000 subscribers.

Tim Hudak

In 2016, Hudak became CEO of Canada’s largest provincial real estate association in OREA, which represents 70,000 members. Previously, he served for 21 years in the Ontario legislature, including as leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario.

Dionna Hall

Broward, Palm Beaches and St Lucie Realtors and Beaches MLS
After numerous recent mergers and name changes, Hall now serves as the CEO for both Broward, Palm Beaches and St Lucie Realtors (the nation’s third largest local Realtor association) as well as Beaches MLS, collectively representing 33,000 Realtors, 35,000 MLS subscribers and 5 regional boards across South Florida and Treasure Coast.

Jim Speer

One Key MLS
Speer serves as the CEO of New York’s OneKey MLS, the result of a 2018 merger between the MLSs of Long Island and the Hudson Gateway. In October 2019, the MLS, which serves 42,000 members rebranded to OneKey MLS from the New York MLS. Speer previously served as the senior vice president of operations at MLSLI.
