Leading the largest trade association in the world is tough. NAR’s regulation challenges continued in 2021 with several high-profile commission-related lawsuits still underway as well as a renewed battle with the U.S. Department of Justice after the department withdrew from an antitrust settlement with NAR reached in 2020. In 2021, Goldberg oversaw the passing of a NAR policy that makes disclosures of buyer agent compensation more transparent to consumers, reinforces that buyer agents cannot market their services as free and prevents agents from having the ability to filter listing searches based on buyer agent compensation rates.
Carter leads the nation’s largest MLS in CRMLS, which has over 104,000 members, and is the country’s most powerful and influential MLS executive. He is a former board member of the Real Estate Standards Organization, former president of the Council of MLS, is a member of think tank MLS Roundtable and serves as a strategic manager on the board of Chicago MLS Midwest Real Estate Data.
The charismatic leader of the nation’s second largest local Realtor association in the Houston Association of Realtors, Hale is also one of the most well-known and respected association leaders in the nation. He leads the over 40,000-member association, which has members across Texas and operates HAR.com, the only local Realtor association site that regularly ranks among the nation’s 25 most visited real estate websites.
As NAR’s general counsel and chief member experience officer, Johnson ensures NAR’s programs, policies and activities comply with the law. She has played an increasingly important role in recent years as NAR manages the class-action antitrust commission lawsuits that name NAR as a defendant and in the ongoing negotiations with the U.S. Department of Justice associated with its investigation of NAR policies around competition. Johnson joined NAR in 2007 and became general counsel in 2014.
A broker associate at Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate in Dallas, Rouda Smith succeeds Charlie Oppler as NAR’s president in 2022. She has been a Realtor for over three decades and has served on NAR’s board of directors since 2009, and for several years on its executive committee. In 2017, she was the vice president for Region 10, comprised of Louisiana and Texas, and she chaired the ÒFuture of the Realtor PartyÓ presidential advisory group.Ê
Donnellan leads the nation’s second largest MLS in Bright MLS, which serves over 94,000 members in the Mid-Atlantic region, with a steady, clear focus on innovation and serving members. In 2021, he led Bright’s initiative to launch the Bright MLS T3 Home Demand Index (built in partnership with T3 Sixty, the publisher of the SP 200), which provides members a forward-looking view of the market with comprehensive, real-time MLS data. He is also a member of the MLS think tank MLS Roundtable.
McGahn leads NAR’s significant advocacy efforts as chief advocacy officer. In 2021, she led the association’s advocacy efforts around improving access to homeownership, a continued recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and ensuring fair housing. Before joining NAR in 2018, McGahn served as counselor to the U.S. Treasury Secretary and staff director for House Financial Services Committee.
Kinney heads up the nation’s largest local Realtor association in the 48,000-member Miami Association of Realtors (MAR). In this position, she also manages the nation’s fifth largest MLS in Miami Realtors. A savvy leader, she has grown the association greatly since becoming CEO in 1993, when it had just 5,000 members. In 2021, MAR in partnership with three other MLSs acquired the MLS technology firm Remine.
DiMichele manages the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board (TTREB), the world’s largest local Realtor board with over 62,000 members. In addition to leading the over-100-year-old association DiMichele also has served on the board of directors for CMLS, as chair of the Ontario Real Estate Association’s Association Executive Committee and is a member of the MLS Roundtable.
With over three decades in the industry, Cowen leads the nation’s third largest MLS in Stellar MLS (formerly My Florida Regional MLS), which serves over 64,000 subscribers in central and southwest Florida. Cowen also serves on MLS think tank The MLS Roundtable.
Jensen leads one of the country’s largest MLSs in Chicagoland’s MRED, which has over 47,000 members. In 2021, She also plays a key role in the MLS Grid, the MLS data-sharing initiative currently serving over 10 MLSs and serves on the boards of the Broker Public Portal, chairman of the real estate data standards nonprofit Real Estate Standards Organization and is a member of the think tank The MLS Roundtable.
As CEO of Canada’s largest real estate trade association in CREA, Bourque represents over 140,000 real estate brokers and agents in over 90 real estate boards. With decades of experience in public policy, Bourque was previously CEO of the Railway Association of Canada.
Yun heads NAR’s economic department as chief economist, creating economic forecasts and providing housing market analysis for the trade group. Yun also leads NAR’s research group as the senior vice president of research, heading its marketing research and predictive analytics teams.
Crawford has led First Multiple Listing Service, Inc. (FMLS), the nation’s fourth largest MLSs with nearly 49,000 subscribers, since 2019 as CEO. In 2021, he helped lead FMLS into a partnership with three other MLSs who acquired the MLS technology startup Remine. Previously, Crawford served as the CEO of the Real Estate Standards Organization.
Birschbach manages NAR’s venture capital division Second Century Ventures (SCV), its international real estate technology accelerator Reach, the Realtor Benefits Program. SCV and Reach own equity in over 100 companies that impact the businesses of over 600,000 real estate practitioners on an annual basis. Previously he served as vice president of strategic investments at NAR.
Consalvo runs one of the nation’s largest MLSs in Arizona Regional MLS (ARMLS), which has nearly 41,000 members. He is also a founding member of MLS Aligned, the first major noncontiguous MLS venture with ARMLS, Beaches MLS, Metro MLS, Utah Real Estate, Regional MLS (Oregon), Northern Nevada Regional MLS and MLS Listings (California).
Hall serves as the CEO for Broward, Palm Beaches and St. Lucie Realtors (the nation’s third largest local Realtor association with over 33,000 members) and BeachesMLS, which serves over 36,000 subscribers. In this position, she helps manage five regional boards across South Florida and Treasure Coast
As CEO of the Texas Association of Realtors, Kessler leads the nation’s third largest state Realtor association comprised of over 70 local Realtor associations representing over 134,000 Realtors. Before taking the reins in 2010, Kessler served as CEO for the San Antonio Board of Realtors and the Greater Fort Worth Association of Realtors.
As CEO of New York’s OneKey MLS, Speer oversees the nation’s seventh largest MLS with over 42,000 members. In 2020, OneKey launched a new consumer-facing website for real estate search. Speer previously served as the senior vice president of operations at the Multiple Listing Service of Long Island.
Grant runs Florida Realtors, the nation’s second largest state Realtor association, which has over 196,000 members in over 50 boards and associations. Before becoming CEO in 2019, Grant served as chief operating officer and general counsel for the association.
