MLS: Region

Last Updated: April 8, 2026

Multiple listing services are categorized into nine US Census regions, with the MLSs on each regional page organized by subscriber tiers based on year-end totals as of Dec. 31, 2025.

A regional perspective offers an appraisal of geographic patterns — including concentration of subscribers, relative market scale, and recent consolidation — and illuminates how adjacent states share or diverge in MLS structure and capacity. These pages are intended to supply comparative, regionally consistent context while aligning with the Almanac’s tiered reporting approach (subscriber ranges rather than precise ranked totals), which was adopted to balance analytic clarity with reporting constraints.

Regions and constituent states:

  • New England — Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont

  • Middle Atlantic — New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania

  • East North Central — Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin

  • West North Central — Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota

  • South Atlantic — Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington, D.C.

  • East South Central — Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee

  • West South Central — Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas

  • Mountain — Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming

  • Pacific — Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington
